Spaces within

This post has its seeds in Aekta's and the contradicting opinions surrounding an organization which is by nature "zara hatke"!

Be it a spiritual organization or a more scientific one (let's not name any); anybody who would tell us how to live life - our first and mostly the last answer to them will be - No thanks!

Some feel it is beneath them to learn to live. They ll prefer to stay in the quicksand and sink deeper than take a hand and make an effort to come out.

I have met people who ll thoroughly criticize the self-help section not having ever read even one book ever, hate the Chicken Soup series and banish it as useless romanticism, again not having read or understood it. They wont watch / attend / listen to any piece of wisdom, lest it would contradict their way of life and thinking. And then say, - "it doesn't work".

Uff!! Did you ever give it an opportunity before branding it as defunct?

It is because people want instant gratification.
All those who crib that this is just another moneymaking tactic, would go and pay twice the amount, if they could have their instant gratification.
What they express is not cynicism to the idea, but resistance to the effort that would go into making things happen. The fear of unknown!!

We get to see the benefits others get and would want to sail in their boat too, but when faced with the condition of having to build a sail for the boat, we de prefer to sit ashore and get a sun tan.

Curiosity is a good think, and so is an open mind. Isn't life everyday a rendezvous with the unknown too? But then we categorize it into comfortable zones, and tell ourselves, to get this or that, we have to work hard.
Education ? Work hard. Career? Work hard. Money? Work Hard. Marriage? Work hard. Health? Work hard. Children? Work hard.

And I myself ????
My peace of mind?
My source of strength ?

Ah! U better come to me, coz I am not going to work hard for u.
I ll not try anything, I ll not reach out, I ll not put an effort, I ll just sit here, curse you and this whole damn world, and die believing somebody up there was unjust to me. Then for all the suffering I ve been through in this world I ll go to heaven, and live in bliss there!!!

Gross! I would say.

Heaven and hell is in the space of mind, we can create all that we want. A heaven right here living, even though we usually create the antibody of it.

Okay, my idea is - don't denounce anything before trying it on, coz you would never know what you had been missing without having had a taste of it.
And no life that doesn't work for itself, can be a fulfilled life.

For myself - I gotta work the hardest.

You have mentioned very valid views. like.. having to work hard to find peace of mind and happiness.

But there is a problem..
One cannot keep trying everything, can you?

There are, if not millions, atleast hundreds and thousands of these organizations and self-help books for those seekers.

And it is not necessary for everyone to seek peace, is it? By law, the entropy of the universe is increasing by the nanosecond!

bhaskar u dont have to search the universe to find something that works, it happens much faster.

but a respectful listening - to whom it might mean a lot - is what they deserve anyway.

hmmm, but what if you are happy in your present state, and dont want to move to a higer level?? isnt that what we all strive for - a serenity in the existence??.. and who knows, maybe there's a price one has to pay for everything, even for trying things out....

manuscrypts price? yeah sure, there is one in terms or money, time and effort.
but like everything else in life... one wld do it if only they think it an investment worth making.

id rather experience life myself and learn from it...rather than from someone else's perspective such as self help books..i truly believe they are crap..you make your own philosophies, find your own fundas and learn to deal with life on your own...by living everythng that there is..

you know .. the last line says a lot ..

you gotta work hard .. everyone has to .. thats how you "live" .. not by waiting for something to happen .. not by listenting to people who tell you that this will happen .. or just trying things that worked for other people ! ..

some people denounce something they had .. just cos they think it did not helped them .. but what they dont understand is that IT did not helped them cos first, as u said they never actually tried to understand it properly and secondly they never "really had the faith" ! . and so they find the easy way out .. denouce the first one.. try something else ..

they think the got "gratification" .. but what ill they do .. if things go the bad way again .. ... easy .. denounce the latest one too .. and try something else !! ..

some people actually call that "life" too !! .. some people .. :)

Can't agree more.
you've almost written everything I believe word-by-word.

Life is something that needs to be lived, every moment, and so often we're so bad at it, because we don't understand what living means. it may mean different things to different people; it can't be taught; everyone discovers it for himself, but still..it's our thinking that makes all the difference.

*applauds*...nicely put,Deez..that's the spirit..even I get bugged with people who pass off all self-help and other ideas as 'money making gimmicks'..I mean, there's no harm in keeping your eyes and ears open for ideas to improve,is there??Of course, all said and done, rather, all listened and read, it's finally, you, who has to work the hardest.:)
