Benki !! Benki !!

(That's Kannada for FIRE, and one of the words in my Kannada vocab of maybe five)

There was a fire alarm in my office building yesterday. I didn't even hear it; was happily lost in music playing on my headphone. Only the commotion around, forced me to wake up!

Now we couldn't even believe if it was a real one!! Well it was not.
Yet everybody evacuated the place and had a nice 20 mins. break enjoying the chilly breeze outside. (It's been cold in Bangalore, and its especially very breezy in my office campus.)

And then an hour or so later we get a mail ...

Dear All

The fire alarm was a mistake!! We have checked the place, and it is safe for occupation.

(Btw that's just the gist of all the official language in the mail...)

And I was ROTFL!!!! Coz did they expect us to come in and check our mails to be confirmed that the place is safe for occupation???

And I am wondering what would it be like in the scenario of real fire...
A mail would come in as -

Dear All

There is a fire in your building, and by the time you will read this mail, it would probably have reached your floor, or the cubicle next to yours, even ur ass could be on fire.
So please evacuate as soon as possible.

And in case u are caught in the fire, please mail us back your precise location !!!

Hope to see you alive

Yours sincerely
Security Dept.

Well, that's IT for u.

P.S. Am not cynical or nything, the security here is quite efficient , and there were guards on duty to sort things out. Yet I can't help laughing at the absurdity of it all.

On the contrary dear!! you can expect that the best way to alert a s/w enineer to anything happening around him/her eould be by email! :)Cos we're always glued to our monitors , and with ehadphones on, as u said!! Of course the inbox is always open too! :)
:) :)

LOL...That's a good one...an email asking people to come back after a fire alarm..I wonder if it wasn't someone who felt things were a bit slow at work and decided to create some excitement.:)I guess modern gadgets also have their own drawbacks...:)

"Dear all, we think our email server is down. You requested to evacuate the place immediately coz there is a fire in the building" :D

Devil dimaag! :p Phewwwwwww...
