Remix Shemix Hayo Rabba !!!

Remix on the Indian music scene started with picking up old peppy numbers and jazzing them up with present day beats.........almost like old wine in a fancy new bottle. And it did sell.
So far so good....yet as always overdoing of anything makes it lose its charm.

Let's have a closer look at some of the remixes happening now. Almost every movie has a title track....the one which is featured in the movie and a remixed version of it released alongside.....Some are really good like the remix version of Woh Lamhe from Zeher, or Asshiq banaya aapne from the movie by same name. But then remixing these songs made a considerable difference in there gerene and style.

Yet there are songs which are remixed, just for the heck of it. The best possible example could be Kajrae from Bunty and Bubbly. I feel the song's beauty was thoroughly spoilt by adding to it completely unnecessary beats. It was catchier before....it was horrendous afterwards. Dus Bahane from Dus also met a similar fate.
And now its almost a necessary evil in every movie's soundtrack. Salaam namaste, Neal n Nikki, Bluffmaster....you name it and it had it. The only sad thing is it makes a mess of an otherwise melodious song which is rather shameful.

And if I had to pronounce the worst possible effort ever - it would be Zinda Hoon from the movie Zinda. It had almost been gaining the status of a cult song, till they brought out the pukey remix version.
If I ever meet the person who came up with it........I de advise him to run for his life.

Remixed can be good, if done with a little discretion. Else they can make the music scene stink.

Bollywood, u listening............????

Too much has been said about remixes, but this much I shall say again: Most of the buggers floating around as music composers are truly lousy musicians. The rape of the original melody might be justified even if they create a new melody from the remix. In most cases, the cacophony is miserable.

The ones that work are usually good enough for the dance floor and your car-trips, but not for the relaxing evening out! :-) PS: I don't listen to too many remixes other than those that my cube-mates inflict on the others.

You bet! Some of the remixed songs are just crap! But you know what? there are a few songs which I started liking only after they were remixed. The zeher thing as you rightly said... plus some of those earlier Bombay Viking numbers... simply awesome!

But yeah.. ab thoda sa zyada ho raha hai for sure. High time bollywood listens!! Hello Hello koi hai???
