India Blinkered

Are we Indian as a nation open to different ideas and new ideologies?

Of course not! How can we be? We are one of the oldest surviving civilizations, and if the keepers of the culture are to be believed, we have come this far only becoz we have vhemently gaurded our territories.

The appeal against release of The Da Vinci Code yet again confirms what we have always known to hold true for India. Can a mere movie move a faith? I have yet to come across a flick that ever challenged a collective consciousness, either for good or bad. A lot of people criticised RDB for its radical viewpoint, but has anything in the sytem of governance changed? Did this generation awake from a slumber? So why all this hoolabaloo.....

And this is not all.....the reservation drama has been growing more and more furious with every passing day, coz again the keepers of this country believe that even in this age of comptetive meritocracy they can make us get ahead as a nation only by improvising governance by reservation.
There would be at least a thosand different creative, ethical and cost effective avenues available to ensure education to socially and economically backward in this country, but then innovation is not something we inherently embrace.

What an irony, a country that claims to be the longest surviving civilization, that claims of brains that can put the world to shame, is not ready to employ the same when it called for by its social order.
And do they genuinly think this kind of a step will eliviate the caste discrimination? From what it looks like to me, it will only provide it longevity and breed further hatered.

Ah, now I know why this has survived over the centuries........

So many more examples come to my mind at the moment, the fanatics of religion, the rivalry of neighbours, the erosion of social justice, the prehistoric order of administration, the epedemic of desiese, the ban on questioning of morality........we have become habitual of sweeping everything under the carpet, till it takes up a levitham form and threatens to blow up every nerve of sensibility in the framework of society.

And then we are left waiting, helpless listeners to the ticking of the time bomb......and unsure of whether we will survive this tide?
