Now that title would invoke different images in different minds. Some of you wld think of sexy chicks like the ones they show in telebrand ads, and some would think of real life fat aunties, babe wannabes!
To me it mostly brings the thought that 99 percent of women wake up to the reality that a place like gym exists and physical fitness is an important part of life, only when they stop fitting into their favorite pair of jeans.
And women in gym are no buddies with each other, our locker room r worse places than the pally pally guy-meets-guy-and-discuss-gals place, which men's locker rooms are supposed to be (or so we have heard).
Women have been attributed a lot of vanity since oldest of literatures, and not undeservingly so really. Did it ever occur to you, why do they have mirrors all around the gym? Two women are just sweating it out on the stepper, what do they need a mirror for in front of them - definitely not to see themselves. They do that all the time. We know our shapes and curves better than anybody else. So coming back to the purpose of the mirror , let me put it like this....
"Mirror, mirror on the wall! Who is the fattest of them all?"
Yeah, it's mostly used to check the others around.
(And thats wht u guys do too, gawking at all t gal in those mirrors.)
Hmmm, so she has a better back! *avert the gaze*
OMG, she is slimmer than me, I need to quicken my pace over this machine. *huff puff*
Huh, three months, and she still hasn't lost much. Must be eating like a pig. *smirk*
If only I had a body like her. *sigh*
Oh, I de better keep my boyfriend from seeing her. *keep a watch*
Jeez, she is such a B****. *smirk smirk*
So on and so forth.....
And if there are guys around, again the whoz who and whoz whose, matters here. The effect surely is extra time spent dressing up for sweating it out!
Oh yeah, they dawn that extra touch of lipstick, and that hint of kajal just before coming in. What man, didn't you know, we have sweat proof and waterproof makeup?
Ever wondered how hindi-film-heriones manage to do that dance in the rain with even the mascara intact!!!
Women spend hours thinking and picking up gym wear. Its not just a fashion statement among their kin, its serves a double purpose of catching that eye, they ve been long hoping to catch. And those who don't are definitely the ones who don't have much option. *don't ask me to elaborate that one*
And now coming to the locker rooms - women don't pat each other's backs, nor do they compliment out in the locker room.
Some might wish to fit into other's pants silently, and others might give a look, which says, "gawd! I de never let myself wear a size that big" - but the whole thing is that, it is one of the coldest and unkindest of places possible on the face of earth.
Women aren't a team in there, they are only competitors.
And if two old pals meet, they ll talk about other women, and their men (if they are talk worthy enough, and chide if they aren't), but they wont talk about each other. If they ve been losing weight, then they have to guard its secret ferociously, and if they haven't, its too embarrassing to talk about it. So in both the cases the topic is carefully circum-navigated.
Whew, and you though working it out releases stress? I hope it does, coz it's more fretting than sweating among women in the gym.
And if u ask any lady, if all this is really true, they ll jus shrug and say -
"Maybe other girls do it, I am just go to work out, and that's all I do."
*Hah, and u thought, u had their secret? Grow up, boys!!!*

Nice post.
It reminds me of Claire's dialogue from the movie Elizabethtown where she says, "Men see things in a box , women see them in a round room". U can just add , women see them in a round room with mirrors.
I dunno why i wrote what I just wrote.
Anyways nevermind!! :)
Very boring dear... waiting for something better..
cheers

haha i can imagine. just can never fathom why women r'nt just satisfied by being mean to us men that they have to do it to their kind too.
a good mirror.. is not for vanity... it is just to show you things as they are...

Hi Deez...first time here & liked ur blog. Just wanted to add in few lines to this post where I slightly differ from ur views! ;-)
Regarding the mirrors in the gym - I think they tend to inspire - cos u wud like to see a better figure or urself thus inspiring u for a better work out!
Also, the women in this part of the world are just toooo over friendly in the gym! Not only do they catch up on the latest with the old friends but also make new friends.
I never see another female in the gym as a competitor. Esp the aerobics its more fun with more people. Cos its more encouraging to work our with others than just by urself.
-Cheers!
