Umm...not a very original thought, but I ve been doing my own bit or physcoanalysis on it. And I wonder how much of the world survives on other person's sufferings. Almost any profession I can think of, has something to do with someone's painful need to be fulfilled. And all you s/w ppl, don't laugh a this-has-nothing-to-do-with-me laugh. U r as much a part of it, as ....well lots of others.
So far so good. Nothing wrong in it. We call it demand and supply, and pretty logically it works well.
Then comes greed.
Let's talk in terms of A and B.
A has a need, and A goes to B to get it fulfilled. Ha ha, now our dear B is not one of god's best creations. He has a dark side - like most of us- but he is a little more in touch with it, and absolutely brazen about it. So dear B realizes how desperately A needs help, and considering the present situation, poor thing doesn't have much of an option but to ask him for help. So B seeks to squeeze the maximum possible out of A. A knows he is being exploited, but does he have a choice?
A succumbs, B laughs and there goes on the wheel of demand and supply more than smoothly, as A had to to oil it more than necessary.
U wld say, I am talking about ethics here. I ll say - No. I am talking about life. Why is it such a bitch?
And the question that persist in my mind are...
How does B sleep at night?
Why is A so helpless?
Shd A stick by his principles, and refuse to oil more than required? But what ll it get him? Delay? Frustration? Maybe some irreparable damage?
How much can B demand? How much can A payup?
What use are principles, if they cant help u in times of need?
How ethical can u be if everybody else doesn't even recognize the word?
Should or shouldn't u give it back to them their way?
Does anybody anywhere keeps a record?
Are good deeds rewarded? And if and when they are does one know what is the reward for?
Are bad deeds punished? And if and when they are does one know what is the punishment for?
Who decided the crime and the magnitude of repayment required?
In a present day practical life spent running about after money, security, happiness (fill in whatever u want) - are these questions pertinent? Do they matter to anybody?
Well they matter to me. Yes unfortunately they still matter.
